The Armed Police Force, Nepal (APF) has launched an internal investigation after a fire broke out at its motor transport branch at headquarters in Halchowk on Wednesday night. The incident reportedly damaged several vehicles and quickly prompted the force to form a senior committee to determine what happened and how extensive the losses may be.

According to APF spokesperson Bishnu Prasad Bhatta, the inquiry is being led by Deputy Inspector General Sandeep Thapa and has already started work. The committee has been directed to submit its findings promptly, including the cause of the fire and the scale of the damage.

The fire is reported to have started around 8:00 PM, raising immediate concerns inside the security agency’s headquarters. While officials have not yet released a full damage assessment, the fact that the blaze affected the motor transport branch suggests the incident may have disrupted a key operational unit responsible for vehicle management and movement.

Halchowk, in Kathmandu, has previously been home to APF facilities, and any fire incident there is likely to attract close attention because of the force’s operational importance. For now, the main focus is on the investigation, which will determine whether the fire was accidental or linked to another cause.

The APF has not disclosed further details on casualties or the exact number of vehicles affected. More information is expected once the committee completes its report.
