Bangladesh Rescues Viral Albino Buffalo Nicknamed Donald Trump From Eid Sacrifice
A rare 700-kilogram albino buffalo in Bangladesh went viral for its blond tuft and unusual nickname, prompting a last-minute government intervention that spared it from Eid al-Adha slaughter.
Bangladesh officials have stepped in to save a rare albino buffalo nicknamed Donald Trump from being sacrificed during Eid al-Adha, after the animal became an unexpected social media sensation. The nearly 700-kilogram buffalo had already been sold for ritual slaughter when the government ordered it spared because of security concerns and intense public attention.
The animal, raised at Rabia Agro Farm in Narayanganj, drew crowds after photos and videos of its distinctive golden-blond tuft spread online. According to reports, the buffalo’s unusual appearance and viral fame turned it into a local celebrity, with visitors traveling from across the country to see it in person.
Why the government intervened
Authorities said the decision was driven by the unusual level of public interest and the risks that came with it. Bangladesh's Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed ordered the buffalo to be spared, the buyer to be refunded, and the animal to be relocated to the national zoo in Dhaka.
That last-minute move prevented the animal from being slaughtered during the festival, where animal sacrifice is an important religious tradition. Instead, the buffalo will now live under public care, shifting from farm curiosity to zoo attraction.
How a nickname changed everything
The buffalo's unusual name helped fuel its fame. Farm owner Ziauddin Mridha reportedly said the nickname was coined by his brother after noticing a resemblance between the animal's blond hair and the former U.S. president. What began as a joke quickly became a viral identity that made the buffalo recognizable far beyond Bangladesh.
Albino buffaloes are rare in Bangladesh, but it was the combination of striking appearance, an internet-ready nickname, and massive online attention that ultimately saved this one from sacrifice.
A viral moment with an unusual ending
The story has become a reminder of how quickly social media can transform an ordinary farm animal into a public figure. In this case, viral attention did more than generate headlines - it changed the buffalo's fate.
For now, Donald Trump is headed to a zoo instead of the altar, closing out one of the more unusual viral animal stories to emerge around Eid this year.
