Nepal’s Layer Poultry Association has increased farm support prices for eggs, with new crate rates set above previous levels amid shifting market conditions.

Egg prices in Nepal have risen again after the Nepal Layers Poultry Association revised its farm support rates following a meeting in Kathmandu. The updated pricing, effective from Saturday, sets Chitwan as the base region and raises major egg categories by 15 rupees per crate.

Under the new rate list, XL eggs are priced at 560 rupees per crate, while large and medium eggs are set at 545 rupees and 515 rupees per crate, respectively. The move reflects another adjustment in a market that has seen frequent price changes in recent months.

What changed

The association’s latest revision adds pressure to egg buyers while offering some relief to poultry farmers, who often face volatility in feed costs, production expenses, and market demand. The base rate being tied to Chitwan also signals the continued importance of the region in Nepal’s poultry supply chain.

Frequent egg-price resets are not unusual in Nepal’s poultry sector, where farm-gate rates are closely watched as an indicator of broader supply conditions. When support prices rise, retail prices often follow, affecting households, restaurants, and food businesses that rely heavily on eggs.

Why this matters

Eggs are one of the most affordable and widely consumed protein sources in Nepal, so even a modest hike can ripple quickly through the market. For farmers, however, higher support prices can help offset losses and stabilize income when costs climb or production tightens.

The latest increase suggests that the industry is still responding to changing supply dynamics and cost pressures. For consumers, it means another round of upward pricing to watch at local markets and shops.

As the poultry sector continues to adjust, the next price revision will likely depend on production trends, market demand, and how quickly supply catches up with consumption.
