A late-night fire in Simkot Rural Municipality-7, Humla destroyed a three-story house and burned gold, silver, and cash, with damage estimated at around Rs 2 million.
A late-night fire has destroyed a three-story house in Humla, reducing valuable property, jewelry, and cash to ashes and leaving the owner with losses estimated at about Rs 2 million.
What happened in Humla
The blaze broke out on Wednesday night at the home of Mahendra Bahadur Shahi in Simkot Rural Municipality-7, according to the District Police Office. Superintendent of Police Shankar Khadka said the fire consumed gold, silver, and cash stored in the house.
Local reports indicate that the fire completely destroyed the three-story structure, adding another painful chapter to the long list of fire-related losses reported in the remote Himalayan district.
Damage and response
Authorities estimate the total property damage at roughly 2 million rupees. While the reports do not mention any casualties, the financial loss alone is significant for a household in a remote area where rebuilding and recovery can be slow and costly.
Humla has seen several major fire incidents in recent years, often leaving families with severe losses in homes, food supplies, and livestock. This latest case highlights how vulnerable remote settlements remain to sudden fires, especially when access to emergency services is limited.
Why this matters
Beyond the immediate destruction, incidents like this underscore the need for stronger local fire preparedness, safer storage of valuables, and faster response capacity in mountainous districts where homes are often closely built and help can be far away.
For Shahi's family, the fire means far more than property damage. It also means the loss of personal wealth, savings, and the sense of security that a home is meant to provide.
