Israel Orders Mass Evacuations in Southern Lebanon as Strikes Intensify

The Israeli military has issued urgent evacuation orders for residents in multiple areas of southern Lebanon as it steps up heavy strikes across the region. The move has intensified fears of a widening conflict, with local reports describing a rapidly deteriorating security situation in border towns and villages.

According to Human Rights Watch, Israel’s Arabic military spokesperson called on residents south of the Litani River to leave immediately and head north, after an earlier wave of evacuation notices expanded from dozens of villages to more than 100 towns and villages across southern Lebanon and the Bekaa Valley. HRW said the scope of the orders raised serious concerns under the laws of war.

Amnesty International also described the evacuation directives as overly broad, warning that mass displacement orders are sowing panic and deepening humanitarian suffering. The organization said the orders covered entire towns and villages, adding pressure on communities already facing severe instability.

Local reporting has described a growing sense of alarm on the ground, with residents rushing to stock up on essentials as strikes continue and evacuation zones expand. In some areas, the orders have covered densely populated communities, heightening concern for civilians caught near active combat zones.

The latest escalation appears to be part of a broader and more aggressive phase of military operations in southern Lebanon, where Israel has said it is targeting Hezbollah-linked locations. Reports also indicate that the offensive has expanded beyond a narrow frontier strip, increasing the risk of displacement and further cross-border instability.
