Nepal Police Crack Down: 20 Arrested in Nationwide Drug Sweep Across 10 Districts
Nepal Police arrested 20 individuals in a major anti-drug operation spanning Siraha, Kathmandu, and eight other districts, recovering hashish, heroin, marijuana, and restricted pharmaceuticals like Dicyclomine.
Nepal has launched a significant crackdown on illegal drug trade, with authorities arresting 20 individuals from various districts during routine patrols on Wednesday and Thursday. The operation underscores the government's intensified efforts to curb substance abuse and trafficking across the nation.
Operation Spans 10 Districts
The arrests were not confined to a single location but scattered across ten key districts, including Siraha, Jhapa, Jumla, Rupandehi, Morang, Sunsari, Dang, Kapilvastu, Tanahun, and Kathmandu. This widespread sweep indicates that police are targeting drug networks operating in both urban centers and rural areas.
Substances Recovered
During the raids, authorities secured a variety of illicit substances. The recovered items included hashish, brown heroin, and marijuana. In addition to traditional narcotics, police also confiscated restricted pharmaceutical drugs, specifically Dicyclomine and Spasmo, which are often misused for their sedative effects when obtained without prescription.
Investigations Continue
The Central Police News Desk confirmed that the suspects are currently in custody and that further investigations are underway. Authorities are expected to probe the origins of the drugs and identify any larger trafficking rings connected to these arrests. As the probe deepens, more details regarding the supply chain and potential accomplices are likely to emerge.
