Karki is attending the “Regional Summit on Scam Center Compounds and Transnational Organized Crime”, organized by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The gathering brings together police chiefs from across Southeast and South Asia to coordinate strategies for dismantling physical scam hubs-often fortified compounds where victims are coerced into running online fraud operations.
These compounds have become a regional emergency, with Thailand, Cambodia, and Myanmar serving as key hotspots. Karki’s participation signals Nepal’s commitment to joining multilateral efforts to shut down these criminal ecosystems and protect citizens from increasingly sophisticated cyber scams.
Leadership Shift at Nepal Police
During Karki’s absence, Deputy Inspector General Rajan Adhikari has been appointed as the acting Inspector General. Adhikari, one of four contenders originally considered for the IGP role before Karki’s November 2025 appointment, now oversees day-to-day operations at the Nepal Police headquarters while the summit unfolds.
Karki, Nepal’s 33th Inspector General, was appointed by the Cabinet on November 10, 2025, replacing outgoing IGP Chandrakuber Khapung after his 30-year service tenure. His leadership has already included high-profile international engagements, including the 5th UN Chief of Police Summit in New York earlier this year.
