The Armed Police Force (APF) of Nepal is taking decisive steps to strengthen border security and enhance disaster preparedness, with Inspector General Narayan Datta Paudel confirming the force's effective execution of its mandates during a high-level meeting at APF Headquarters in Halchowk.

Groundbreaking Border Interaction Team to Streamline Checkpoints

A major new initiative will see the formation of a Border Interaction Team, designed to facilitate smoother operations at border checkpoints and improve coordination between APF units and border communities. This team aims to address longstanding challenges in checkpoint efficiency while fostering better relationships with local residents who rely on cross-border movement for trade and daily life.

Monsoon Disaster Response Plans Now Active

As Nepal braces for the monsoon season, the APF has activated comprehensive preparedness and response plans specifically tailored for monsoon-related disasters. These plans include rapid deployment protocols for flood relief operations, emergency rescue teams, and coordination mechanisms with local authorities to ensure timely assistance to affected communities.

APF Officially Designated as Nepal's Border Security Force

The force's expanded role aligns with the government's recent announcement to designate the APF as Nepal's dedicated border security force. During the presentation of the fiscal year 2083/84 budget, Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle confirmed that the APF will be further strengthened to focus on safeguarding Nepal's northern and southern borders, reinforcing its critical position in national security.

With 14 mandates under the BIRD concept-Border Security, Internal Security, Revenue Support, and Disaster Management-the APF continues to evolve as a semi-military wing operating at the intersection of law enforcement and military operations, ensuring Nepal's borders remain secure while its citizens are protected from natural calamities.
