Nepali Congress Policy Institute Launches 12 Thematic Subcommittees to Drive Party Reforms
The Nepali Congress Central Policy, Research and Training Academy has formed 12 subcommittees targeting key social issues and policy reforms, with Vice President Bishwa Prakash Sharma announcing new coordinators for digital governance, mental health, land management, and electoral reforms.
The Nepali Congress is rolling out a major structural upgrade to its policy arm. The Central Policy, Research and Training Academy has officially formed 12 thematic subcommittees designed to tackle critical social issues and drive internal policy reforms across the party.
Academy chief and party vice-president Bishwa Prakash Sharma announced the initiative, assigning coordinators to lead efforts in sectors ranging from digital governance and electoral reforms to mental health awareness and land management .
Key Appointments and Focus Areas
The new subcommittees cover a broad spectrum of national concerns. Dr. Gopal Dahit will lead the land management special campaign, focusing on long-term solutions for squatters and unmanaged settlements. Man Bahadur Thapa coordinates the disaster management subcommittee, while Mohna Ansari takes charge of mental health awareness efforts.
In the tech and governance sphere, Deepesh Bista leads the information technology and digital governance subcommittee, and Janak Chaut heads the electoral system reform subcommittee. Other notable appointments include Amrit Gyawali for infrastructure development, Khagendra Acharya for entrepreneurship and innovation, and Dr. Krishna Prasad Paudel for education policy .
The academy also established a BP Knowledge Center subcommittee coordinated by Prakash Lamichhane, an anti-caste discrimination awareness team led by Eliza Dhakal, and a digital awareness and fact-checking group under Prakriti Bhattarai. The Green Table subcommittee is headed by Kanchan Jha .
Internal Code of Conduct Drafted
Beyond thematic committees, the party is strengthening its internal governance. A separate five-member committee, coordinated by Vice Head Madhu Acharya, has been formed to draft an internal code of conduct for the party, according to Acting Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Dulal .
This move signals a broader push for organizational effectiveness and policy modernization within the Nepali Congress, aligning its research academy with contemporary challenges like digital transformation, social equity, and sustainable development.
