The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has completed its first district convention in Panchthar, electing a new 13-member district executive committee. Prakash Gurung was unanimously chosen as district president at the event, marking a key organizational step for the party in eastern Nepal.

New leadership in Panchthar

The convention was held at the District Coordination Committee hall in Phidim, where party members selected the district leadership through a unanimous process. Along with Gurung as president, Saharsingh Tamang was elected vice-president, Kushal Jabegu secretary, and Sirjana Rijal treasurer.

The newly formed committee is expected to help strengthen the party’s local structure and coordinate its political activities across Panchthar. The formation of a district executive also signals the party’s continued push to build grassroots organization beyond Kathmandu and other major urban centers.

Why it matters for RSP

The RSP has been working to expand its organizational presence nationwide, and district-level conventions are an important part of that effort. Establishing local leadership can help the party mobilize supporters, improve coordination, and prepare for future political contests.

The unanimous election of Prakash Gurung suggests a relatively smooth internal consensus in the district, at least for this round of leadership selection. For a party still consolidating its identity and structure, such local conventions can play a major role in turning national momentum into durable organization on the ground.
