RSP Inaugurates Historic First General Convention in Chitwan with Over 4,200 Representatives

The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has officially launched its first general convention in Bharatpur Metropolitan City, Chitwan, bringing together more than 4,200 representatives for a landmark three-day event. This convention, which began on Sunday, June 21, is a critical milestone in the party's organizational journey as it prepares to elect new leadership and solidify its national presence.

President Rabi Lamichhane and Prime Minister Balendra Shah, a senior leader of the party, jointly inaugurated the convention by ringing the party symbol known as the 'Bell' in a special ceremonial program. The gathering has drawn high-profile political figures, including Gagan Kumar Thapa of the Nepali Congress, Pradeep Kumar Gyawali of CPN-UML, Barshaman Pun of the Nepali Communist Party, and Rajendra Lingden of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party, who attended as invitees.

While the convention will run until June 23 to elect a new leadership team, party insiders suggest that incumbent President Lamichhane is the most likely candidate for re-election. The event has been secured with over 1,000 Nepal Police personnel deployed at the venue to ensure safety and order.

This convention also follows the party's recent finalization of 3,849 representatives, a count confirmed by Bhuvan KC, head of the Central Election Commission, after addressing complaints about the initial list. The selection process underscores the RSP's rigorous preparations for this national gathering, which coincides with the party's fourth anniversary since its formation.

As the RSP moves forward with this historic convention, the political landscape of Nepal continues to evolve, with the party asserting its role as a ruling force through strategic organizational growth and high-level political engagement.
