Nepal Tharu Sangh has entered a new phase of leadership after Shivanarayan Mahato Gurau was unanimously elected president at its first convention, held at the Nepali Congress central office in Sanepa. Gurau, who had been serving as head of the ad-hoc committee, will now lead the organization’s newly formed executive committee.

The convention marked a significant organizational milestone for the NC-affiliated sister body, bringing together members to formalize its structure and choose its next leadership team. According to the available reports, the election was completed by consensus, signaling a unified start for the group’s next chapter.

The first convention also followed the recent formation of the ad-hoc committee led by Gurau, which was expanded under party leadership to help steer the organization toward a permanent executive setup. One report stated that Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba nominated 98 members to the Nepal Tharu Sangh Central Executive Ad-hoc Committee under Gurau’s leadership.

Another report noted that the convention at Sanepa was inaugurated by Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa, underscoring the party’s close connection to the sister organization and its broader outreach to Tharu communities. The gathering was presented as the association’s first general convention, adding weight to the leadership transition.

For the Nepal Tharu Sangh, Gurau’s unanimous election suggests continuity after the ad-hoc phase and a desire to build momentum around a more stable organizational framework. The new executive committee now faces the task of translating that unity into stronger internal coordination and wider political engagement.
