A tragic road accident in Rolpa district has left three people dead after a pickup jeep carrying construction materials plunged about 600 meters off the road in Byangkhola, Madi Rural Municipality-2.

According to Inspector Krishna Shrestha of the District Police Office Rolpa, the victims include two men and one woman, and their identities have not yet been confirmed.

What happened

The vehicle went off the road on Tuesday morning and fell deep down the hillside, turning a routine transport trip into a fatal crash. Police said the jeep was transporting construction materials when it lost control and dropped roughly 600 meters.

Emergency response teams were alerted after the accident, but the steep terrain would have made rescue and recovery difficult in the remote area.

Why this crash stands out

Mountain roads in western Nepal are often narrow, steep, and exposed to dangerous driving conditions, especially for vehicles carrying heavy loads. Crashes in districts like Rolpa are frequently severe because even a small loss of control can send a vehicle far below the road edge.

This latest accident adds to a pattern of deadly road incidents in the district, where difficult geography and road safety challenges continue to put travelers at risk.

Ongoing investigation

Authorities have not yet released the names of the deceased, and the exact cause of the accident is still under review. Police are expected to continue examining the site and identifying the victims.

For now, the crash has once again underscored how fragile road travel can be in Nepal’s hilly regions, where a single mistake or mechanical failure can have devastating consequences.
